Leash Training For Dogs – Stop Your Dog From Dragging You Down the Road

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

If you do not want to be faced with the problem of getting your dog out for a walk because they tend to like to drag you everywhere. Then you need to make sure that you learn more about leash training for dogs. However when it comes to training your dog to walk properly on a leash do not expect results immediately. In fact you will need to dedicate a great deal of time and effort to this part of your pets education.

However before you begin teaching your dog to walk on the leash there are certain training principles that you need to understand. Below we review what some of these are.

Principle 1 – When it comes to leash training for dogs it is best to choose an area that your dog is familiar with, say your own garden. You need to remember that it is natural for dogs to want to explore and things will go a great deal easier for them and you if they are not being tempted to do this.

Principle 2 – Initially when things go well do not only reward them with saying something but by offering them a treat. Then over time whenever they perform the task that you ask for them do not provide them with treats as often. In fact you will find that your dog will be more than happy to receive your words than treats. But should they do something wrong do not use punishment to correct them as they will only become more stubborn and getting them to do what you wish will prove difficult.

Principle 3 – Finally when it comes to leash training for dogs make sure that you do not carry out the sessions for too long. However in the beginning carry them out on a frequent basis. This is because dogs do not have a long attention span so keeping them focused on what you are attempting to teach

Outdoor Dog Kennels & Enclosures

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Putting your dog(s) in outdoor dog kennels might seem like a cruel thing to do, but when you consider that they will be able to breath fresh air into their lungs and get some mobility at the same time: It’s actually a much better alternative to leaving them cramped up in the house while your away from home or busy.

If you’re taking budget into consideration, plastic outdoor dog kennels are usually the least expensive, whereas steel wire kennels will cost more but last longer. The only issue with using a steel kennel is that you have to make sure the steel is rust proofed first of all, then also make sure it’s a fairly high grade of steel that won’t bend or distort easily.

Portability?

There are several portable varieties of outdoor dog kennels that are made to be transported from location to location. Your life will be made much easier if you look at reviews specifically about the specific kennel you want to make sure people like and promote the usability of the product before you buy.

Accessories?

You’re probably going to want to get two stainless steel dishes for water and food, along with a bed or blanket to get them of the floor of the kennel. Sun shades are also a great idea — you don’t have to shade all areas of the kennel, just make sure the dog(s) have a shaded area to get a break from the sun if they need it.

Other Possibilities?

You may instead choose to buy a simple crate or a full-sized dog run. Whichever you choose it’s a good idea to have at least one enclosure handy in the event you’re expecting the cable repairman, or your pet gets fussy with company around.

Make sure to clean the enclosure regularly to prevent bacteria and soiling.

Dog Potty For Patio……Introducing The Porch Potty!

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Looking for the perfect dog potty for patio use? A patio dog potty is a great solution for owners that want a convenient place for their dogs to “do their business”.

An innovative company has come out with a top of the line dog potty that is perfect for using on the patio. It’s called the Porch Potty.

Here are just a few great benefits of having a Porch Potty:

1. The Porch Potty has very low maintenance. What’s great is that it has a built in drainage system that you can direct into a gutter, flowerbed or drain on your patio. With this system you don’t have to worry about a catch pan that you have to clean out. Even if it rains, the water will drain out automatically from the potty.

With this set up, you don’t have to touch anything… it all drains off automatically. Great design!

2. It’s easy to keep clean. Just remove the solid waste and everything else is done automatically. It has an automatic sprinkler system that can be set to come on at night to clean and water the potty so its ready for the next day. This keeps smells almost non existent.

3. They have real grass that is great for training and helps your puppy or adult dog really “get in the mood” if they smell the real thing. Once they’re use to the dog potty then you can start using the synthetic grass and they will be trained to go on it.

4. Finally, it has a great price. For everything you get, you really can’t beat the price compared to other potties on the market.

All in all, I’ll have to say, I am very impressed with this dog potty for patio use. Sure could make “taking the dog out” a whole lot easier!

The Dog Travel Bowl Solution

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

If you like to travel with your dog, then you need to make sure that he/she has everything they need for the trip; especially food, and more importantly, water! I love to travel with my dog, but I’ve learned that she is far better behaved when she has access to her amenities. When I first started travelling with my pup, I used to stop whenever I saw her getting antsy so that I could feed her and give her water. I found this really inconvenient at times when I wasn’t able to stop. She would start to move around the car, and when I wasn’t able to pull over right away it became downright dangerous.

So, I decided not to travel with her anymore. It was then that I started to look around for a solution to this problem because I really wanted to continue travelling with my dog. Finally, I found something that made travelling safe for us again; it was a dog travel bowl. I tried it out once and I was overjoyed by what the dog travel bowl did. It didn’t leak a drop of water in my car, and my dog was so happy that she had her very own dish while travelling. The dog travel bowl looks just like a regular cup, but it has a lipped rim so that the water doesn’t spill while you are travelling. I was so impressed with not only the dog travel bowl, but how well behaved my dog was. She was far more relaxed and at ease. I love this dog travel bowl; it has allowed me to travel with my dog again! Thank you!
